»Journal Swap«

About a month ago, I stumbled upon a blog called Neatly-Packaged. The wonderful lady behind the blog, Nancy was going to be co-hosting a journal swap. Like an honest to blog, physical journal swap. My obsession with stationery and office supplies couldn't be held in check, and I had to sign up for it. I normally try to write out or at the very least outline my blog entries and I knew that this would be an excellent opportunity to reach out and get to know some bloggers. So I signed up for it the same day.

A few days later, I got an email from Nancy letting me know who I was partnered up with for the journal swap. I was partnered with the lovely Felecia who writes about A Taste of the College Life which is a foodie and college lifestyle blog. Her blog has a lot of cool insights into sorority life and food while in college. I have to say that as a twenty-seven year old who has been known to eat lunchables and ice cream for dinner, Felecia's blog is a breath of fresh air for the cooking impaired.

Felecia and I started exchanging emails so we could get to know each other better. And it turned out, we had a fairly few things in common. We both had a love of some southern staples like monograms, college football and pearl accessories. So when I tried to find a journal for my partner, I was looking into trying to find something that had some southern flair.

I first tried to look into some options along the monogram route, but all my local sources wouldn't have what I needed in the time frame allowed. So I had to widen my options and look in a couple of places to try and find something perfect. I ended up finding a journal that I sent along to Felecia! You'll have to check out Felecia's blog to see the journal I sent her in exchange! EDIT: Here's the link to the journal I sent to Felecia!

As far as the journal I got, Felecia went above and beyond what I expected! Looks like Felecia's sources for custom vinyl was a bit quicker on the draw than mine.

This journal has to be the cutest thing that I've seen with the little doe on the front! I've used journals like this for some of my other posts earlier in the year, but I've been running out of space in that journal. And this one has handly little zipper for important things.

Here is my new journal with my other blogging physical supplies, my calendar and my crammed-packed pencil case. Although the reason it's jammed packed could be due to the pair of scissors in there as well.

If you're a new blogger and considering taking part in anything like this, whether it's a link up, a item exchange, or just anything along these lines, my best advice is to just put yourself out there! You'll never know who you'll meet or the friends you'll find. I know I've written about not having as many friends as I'd like and all that jazz, but seriously. Like the Nike commercials say, Just Do It! It's quite worth it!

Question Time! Have y'all participated in a link up or item exchange like this? Or if you know of some other places to find new bloggers other than stumbling on to them, where do look for new bloggers?  Let me know in the comments below!

»late! fifty-two: week 38«

Hey happy Sunday! My post is a bit late because I'm a lazy person. Also my brother in law just got shipped off for basic training. Let's go Kevin! I really don't have much to say this week.

Week 38: What is your favorite quote?

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that."

"A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor"

»fifty-two: week 37«

Happy Thursday! This is the third week that I've subbed a question. But y'all probably don't care about that. I hope everyone's is having a good week! I had to do a crazy thing this past week! I had to basically re-pierce my ears in my lowest piercing. I hadn't worn any kind of jewelry in those holes in forever. Both of my ears got really sensitive and really swollen for a couple of days, but the swelling has stopped and I'm wearing some old piercing studs in my ears for the next couple of weeks until the holes complete healing. I've got to keep earrings in my ears at all times apparently.

Week 37: What do you want to be remembered by?

Have y'all heard the best new song in the world? My world and mind exploded when I heard this fantastic music through my hearing ear holes. I've listened to this song 83 times since I downloaded it. Oh, did I not tell you the name of the song? It's Centuries by Fall Out Boy. You can listen to it here.

"Some legends are told, some turn to dust or to gold...
But you will remember me, remember me for centuries.
And just one mistake, is all it will take,
We'll go down in history, remember me for centuries."

Holy Shit. This is one of those songs that just inspires greatness. It leaves you with the feeling that you can do anything. Several times while listening to this song, I've pictured myself going skydiving. I had honestly never considered going skydiving ever in my life before this. This song is an adrenaline rush in lyrical format. But I really need to stop waxing poetic all over this song.

But getting on with the question, I guess I've always wanted to be remembered for writing. Like most people in school, you read The Diary of Anne Frank. And Anne's writing gave me quite the impression. I wanted to make an impact on the world using my words. Since then I've kept some sort of journal/diary. And this blog isn't really what it should be when I think of it. This should be where I express myself, my thoughts and feelings. Its a bit hard though after years of being so private. So I'm going to make a small daily goal for myself. I want to share more of myself on more consistent basis. I'm going to start small and try and tweet something every hour that I'm up, that's not something for my blog, but a thought that I'm thinking. And now is probably time for me to go to bed, because that sounds ridiculous.

What do you want to be remembered for?

»Liebster Award!«

This is a bit out of the blue. I was recently nominated for a Liebster Award by Ashley over at Twe1ve2. Thanks so much for nominating me! I guess if you've been around the internet long enough most bloggers have seen this before, but I've never been nominated. I honestly didn't mean for a week to pass by before I posted it, but que sera sera.

Here are the set of rules that we're playing with today:
  1. Post 11 facts about yourself.
  2. Answer the 11 questions provided by the person who nominated you and then create an 11-question set for the next group of nominees.
  3. Choose up to 11 (or more or less depends on the rules you follow) bloggers to nominate and link them in the post!
  4. Let your nominees know that they've been tagged and no tag-backs!
  5. Nominate blogs under 200 followers.

❥ I have epilepsy. But I think I'm growing out of it. Hopefully I may be able to come off my medications.
❥ Because I can be really sensitive to light, I sleep with an eye mask every night.
❥ I have my ears pierced 3 times and I mostly wear captive ball rings in my ears, but I wish I had better earrings. I can't just go out and get new earrings because my ears are highly sensitive, so I either have to wear gold or surgical steel.
❥ I currently have 692 songs in my iPhone. My favorite song on there is currently Vegas Lights by Panic! at the Disco.
❥ Murphy is a family name on my Mother's side and I've always loved it for some strange reason. I think it was because someone in the family said years ago that if I had been a boy I would have ended up as Murphy. I think if I was to ever get a boy dog, I'd name him Murphy.
❥ I love taxidermy. It sounds really strange, but I just love it. Especially deer and shark taxiderby. I know that its a pipe dream, but I would love to own a shoulder mount albino or white buck. But those are pretty rare. It will probably never happen.
❥ Whenever I cook, I probably the most messiest person ever. I never make messes on purpose, but some how they always end up happening.
❥ I only have 3 types of shoes that I like. Tom's, Boots or Sandals. Any other kind of shoe just annoy me for some reason. I also can't stand socks unless I have to wear them with boots. I'd prefer to be barefoot anywhere.
❥ I can't really set a time to write something. It has to come naturally for me. Because realistically, I'm have a hard time coming up with facts about myself.
❥ Most of my favorite foods have shrimp or scallops in them. I will never say no to either of them. I also really like roasted oysters.
❥ I drive with my toes. If I drive, I try to drive with a shoe that I can easily take on and off because of this. My dad used to harp on me when he would teach me how to drive stick shift because the truck we were driving would get super hot on the floor boards.

❥ What is your favorite food? Like I touched in the 11 random facts, I like shellfish. But I think my favorite thing to eat currently is a Shrimp and Scallops Burrito at a local Mexican joint. That is the best thing in the world currently. The mix of the shellfish, the spice and the zest, plus the side of chips and salsa? Paradise.
How do you de-stress? Listening to music and belting out the lyrics along to the songs. Sometimes I even dance!
What scripture speaks the most to you? Honestly, I don't subscribe to any actual religion. Structured religion puts me off to no end and my own personal beliefs more in line with Paganism. Plus, honesty hour here, I think that the Bible has been changed way too much to be an accurate source of history and everything written in it should be taken with a spoon of salt. But I'm not going to dodge the question and I happen to enjoy the passage from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 in most of the translations.
Where do you get your ideas for new posts? Pinterest or other bloggers.
Cookies or Pie?  I'm very particular about both, but I happen to like more varieties of cookies than I do pie. I only really like apple pie, but I enjoy sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, chocolate chip cookies, oreos, Girl Scout cookies. The list goes on.
What's your favorite movie? Jeeze, I love a lot of movies. But I can watch Avengers and Pacific Rim over and over. Also Tron Legacy.
What is your least favorite chore to do around the house? Anything that has to do with the bathroom. Bathrooms are gross.
What is your favorite hobby/activity to do in your spare time? Reading or playing video games. I'm very partial to Minecraft, Animal Crossing and Portal 2. And the Sims, but I haven't played it in a while because Sims 3 would crash my Mac, and Sims 4 might not come out for Mac.
Do you play or watch and sports? I don't play sports, but I love watching Yankees!Baseball, Rangers! Hockey, and USCGamecocks!Football. I like watching teams that I like.
Are you a country or city girl? I like to think of myself as a city girl that enjoys the country. Maybe I can call it being a Suburban girl, haha.
If you could describe yourself as any fruit, what would it be? Pineapple. Sweet but with acid tangy enough burn your tongue. Also with a spiky exterior.

This wonderful list of people that I've seen around 20sb.net as well as some of the smaller blogs in my bloglovin' feed!

❥ Besides the main social networking sites, what other tools do you use for blogging?

»fifty-two: week 36«

Happy Thursday! How has every one's week been! I've got an exciting email earlier today, and I've been meaning to have a currently post. Plus I've been nominated for a Liebster Award since I last blogged, so look forward to that post tomorrow. This weeks question was a tougher then the last one, so I decided to do another alternate question.

Week 36: When you think of 'home', what, specifically, do you think of?

When I think of home two things normally pop into my head. The first thing that I see is Robert's face. In my heart and soul, I know that if Robert is there, I'm at home. As long as I can draw strength from him, to come back to him, to snuggle up to him when I finally decide to go to bed. I know that wherever that is is at that moment home. It doesn't matter if we are in New York, Washington or in South Carolina, Robert means that I'm home.

The second thing that comes to mind, is my retreat. At my parents house there is a backyard bench swing that we've had for ages. It would be my safe space if I needed to destress and just let go. I would go out there and just sing along to whatever songs I had in my CD player, or later, on my iPod. I've been going there just about every weekday for the past two weeks and just hanging out for hours. Just swinging on the bench swing causes all the stress to disappear.

How about y'all? What is, or where is "home" to y'all? Is it a person or place? Let me know! I can't wait to hear from you!
