thanks for being a bitch just like 2012. I had such high hopes for us. And in some areas, you were alright. Other times, not so much. I really don't know what else to say. You just weren't my year. I'm sure you were amazing for other people, that you changed lives. But you just didn't have the impact I was looking for. I'll remember you.

Hey there good looking. What are you doing for the next 365 days? I've got a couple of dates that I want to go on with you. I have a few things planned, like I know we are going to be going to New York City. Thats going to be fantastic. I have some other things planned for us. More exciting things. And we are going to go out and do them, we are going to be fanatsic together and this is going to be the year that you want and need to be.
All my best,
Kasey

winter 2013

I bought this fox ornament from World Market, but since I can't take quality pictures, I used the image from their website.
Holy holly wreaths. It's December already. Where did the time go? I will have to say that we're closing in on the one year mark for Antlers + Anchors. I started this blog as a whim one New Year's Eve with one of the most dramatic letters to 2012 and 2013 ever. I think I'll continue that tradtion this year.

This year the holidays have started out rough. This year, I failed to plan accordingly for Thanksgiving, and I missed my annual migration to My People's Thanksgiving. (Yes, this is what its called, and we even have signage and everything.) But we were going to opt-out for the Migration because Rob's birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year. We planned on spending time with Rob's family, but we didn't plan on spending it at a hospital. Rob's Grandmother isn't doing to well, to the point of making "preparations". I hate to see Rob and I's family to go though this so close to the holiday. I had to go though something simular when I was much younger, but I feel for them.

With that in mind, there are somethings that I want to do this December to make sure that Christmas/Yule is as fun and cheerful as possible especially becasue I have to work Christmas Day. So here are some of the "plans" that I have in mind to get into the holiday spirit. First thing, trim the tree. Rob and I got a fake tree this year, because of the hassle that a real tree posed last year with no truck to be able to transport it. So we bought one that is supposed to be a 6' tree, but it seems so small. I guess our trees in the past have always been around the 7'5" range. There are only two little ornaments on the tree currently because Bob has been too lazy to get the actual box of decorations out of the closet. I try to buy a new ornament each year, and the fox from the title image is this year's addition. The sugar skull which can actually be seen, is one that we've had since our first holiday together, but I left it out last year because I wanted to put it in my car on the rear view mirror. My holiday style is normally kind of tacky with lots of colors and glitter. Our tree topper as seen in the Holiday Hangover post, is covered in glitter. Rob says he hates our decorations, but I think the secretly loves it. <Edit: I seriously stopped typing because Rob had finally got the ornaments. Distracted by decorating the tree!>

Secondly, I think the next thing is to get into the holiday mood. Normally that means blasting some Christmas tunes, driving around at night looking at the decorations, coffee on weekend mornings and hot chocolate in the evening. A whole line up of holiday movies and specials to work my way through. Things like this make me feel really nostolgic about the holiday.

Third, spending as much time as I can with my family. I luckly live very close to all of my family, so I tend to see them about once or twice a month. But, Thanksgiving though Christmas, I normally kick up my quality time with them. Tomorrow, Rob and I have plans to go over to my parents for breakfast, since we and my brother Bryan missed Mom's special Biscuts and Gravy at Thanksgiving. We'll also be over later on in the evening back at Rob's family's house because we missed actual turkey because of Grandma being in the hospital.

Lastly, the thing that gets me most in the holiday spirit is just the fact that durring the year, every thing gets taken for granted, and at the end of the year, you're reminded to be thankful and grateful. I'm thankful for everyone in my life, my family, Rob and his family. I'm "thankful" for my job, even though I'm not always a fan of it. I'm thankful for my health. I'm thankful for anyone who reads this blog.

What puts you in the holiday mood, the cold weather, holiday specials, the Carolina/Clemson game? GO COCKS! Let me know!

Sunday, October 6, 2013

Uh, hi. Long time no see? How are you doing? I know its been a while, but I'm happy to report that I'm alive! So what have I been up to? Not much.

Well... There are a couple of things that I could talk about, like when Robert forgot that there was a pizza box in the oven which caused a small fire. Luckily there was no damage, but it was a bitch to clean up after using the fire extinguisher. I'm admitting defeat and surrendering in the Oven Conflict. The oven is too temperamental for me to attempt any more cooking/baking adventures. The stove top still lets me cook, but I'm not touching the oven anymore.

I could also talk about my dad, who was in the hospital for a few days because he gets pancreatitis flair ups every once in a while. Since my dad is diabetic, he had to be admitted so they could safely "reset" his pancreas. Which basically means he has to be hooked up to an IV and go without food or water for a few days. Dad's out of the hospital now, but it was really scary.

I've made a point to not go into it about work here on the blog, but I'm just going to say that it still continues to stress me out. Not to the point where the eye twitch comes back, but enough for me to want to come home and drink. Or spend hours and hours of time watching anime on Hulu or videos on YouTube. I've got 48 days left on this schedule, and I'm just counting down the days until the new shift starts.

Is it just me, but it is supposed to be fall right? Like colder weather, leaves falling and all that jazz? I know Pumpkin Spice has taken over the world for its 3 month run, but the only other tell that I have that its fall is that the acorns are falling at my parents house. It was seriously 80-something degrees today. I need fall to officially start because I have a cute outfit that I've finally pieced together that I want to wear. And I really want to take pictures in the outfit! Which is odd for me. I normally don't care about fashion.

Anyway, back to fall. I really love fall. Its one of my favorite seasons. The cooler weather, the fun activities that come with it, like hayrides, ghost tours, pumpkin patches, Halloween! I love the spookiness of the entire season and I can't wait for the temperature to catch up with the date. So question time, if anyone is still reading this thing, what's your favorite thing about fall? Any special traditions? Let me know! I want to find some new things to do this fall.

Get it? Kase? Kasey? I tried to be punny. Oh my gosh, I'll stop there. Since I'm a bit slack about blogging my life events, here's a new monthly post topic! I get to quickly tell you what I forgot to blog about! Yay for having a memory of a goldfish!

August 2013

⋙ I went to my first gay event. It was a little overhyped/underwhelming. I think my expectations of it was a bit too high, or it was just the fact of the matter that it was parade that was held at like 9 in the morning.

⋙ I became addicted to Minecraft and Minecraft videos. I can't stop watching videos about Minecraft from youtube channels like Rooster Teeth's Let's Play or Joey Graceffa's gaming channel. I'm still getting the hang of playing Minecraft on the computer, but it was a well spent 25$.

⋙ I also got addicted to listening to the podcast, Welcome to Night Vale. Most people describe as NPR written by Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft. And I think that is a spot on description.

⋙ I got so stressed out about my grown up job that I developed an eye twitch. It initially lasted for about 3 days, but it now comes and goes periodically if I don't get enough sleep.

⋙ I ordered something from H&M's website, and the plastic bag they send the clothes in was the right number for the tunic I ordered, but the actual tunic was the wrong color. (And wrong size, but that was my fault.) I sent it back for exchange, but lets hope they send me back the right one.

I'm desperately trying to find a good pair of boots. I'm not having any luck at all. BOOTS ACQUIRED.

And that was pretty much my August. See you in September. Or wake me up when September ends.

Criminal!

I GOT A SPEEDING TICKET!

Its a running joke in my family that I can't drive. Rob doesn't like me driving because I apparently "Don't pay attention enough." My dad tends to agree with him, because I backed into my dad's parked 18 wheeler, which ended up tearing off my front bumper when I was 18-20ish? Okay, I agree, I could pay a little more attention, but at least I'm not filming youtube videos while I drive.

Unfortunately, I was running late yesterday. I wanted to stay a bit longer in bed then I normally do, and for some reason that I cannot fathom for the life of me, I took forever in the shower. So I was booking it  on my way to work. My comute takes about 30 minutes on a good day. Half of my trip is city/neighbor hood driving, with speeds not over 50. The second half is mostly interstate. I was caught speeding on the interstate. I was going 74 in a 60. So the state trooper pulled me over. He asked if I was running late or if I knew how fast I was going. I said I was running late and I felt stupid for speeding. He saw my work badge, and took my information to write up my ticket. Durring the 5 minutes that the Trooper was in vehicle I just keep berating myself for being stupid at the same time trying to call my supervisor to let her know I was going to be late. I didn't get a chance to speak to my supervisor before the officer came back. He was very nice in issuing the ticket, because he lowered the point deduction from the normal 4 points down to the minimum of 2, and he also lowered the ticket to the lowest amount of money, 81$. And luckily I don't have to show before the court.

Moral of the story, I ended up being late for work anyway. I just have to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier to give me enough time to get ready. And I have to give myself more time to get to work. I know I'm not the only one who's gotten a ticket before, but I think I'd feel a little bit better hearing other's experiences with the law. Leave a comment if you've ever had a ticket or something along the same lines. Have a great day!

Hello June!

I hate to have high expectations for a month, because 14 out of 30 days, I'm chained 10 hours a day to a desk answering phone calls. But June is shaping up to be a big month. This Thursday, Rob and I will be packing up the car, and driving our way up to DC for long weekend. I really want to experience a lot of cool things, culture and history. Rob and I are going up there with out a well thought out plan, so if you've been to Washington DC, please leave a comment below with some really cool things that you've experienced or enjoyed on your own trip there. Or if you've never been, something that you would do while you are there.

But this month, I also have the goal of tackling 3 of my goals from my 26 before 27 list. I have this mason jar I bought and its been sitting around for about two months. Its screaming at me to punch a hole in the lid. I just need to get some rubber grommets and borrow my dad's drill. I'm also looking to try my hand at sun tea. I have a hard time making regular tea with boiled water. (Maybe this is the oven again waging war against me, but I'm not sure.) I think that letting the tea steep in the sun would allow it to be a softer and not a harsh a brew. Of course, I have my read a new book each month goal, and I'm looking to start with a certain book. I used to read on the Amazon Kindle app on my old phone, but I want to start really collecting more books for fill up a extra book self I have.

I have a bit of plans for this month, so my blog might be a little chaotic with my content. Instead of Friday Faves, I'm thinking of moving over to Thursdays for Things I Love Thursdays. The reason for the move is that my new schedule for work starting after June 30, will be M,T,W and F's. I'm also looking to bring back Comic Book Wednesdays, but only once a month, and only for my favorite books for the month. I'm also tossing around some other ideas for features of this blog to make it really unique.

26 before 27

Yesterday was my 26th birthday. I know I'm not, but I feel really old. I guess its the fact that I never pictured myself or imagined myself as being 26. I was actually going to have this up yesterday, but I had a really bad day yesterday. But today is a new day, and its my first true day as being twenty-six. So here is a list of things I want to do before I turn twenty-seven.

⨠001. Put myself out there. // Last night, I realized I needed a bigger support system. I need a friend. I need to open myself to new opportunities and to get to know more people so that way I can cultivate new relationships to people, weither they be here in real life, or on the internet.

⨠002. Go to the gun range with my brother. // Now that Bryan is back home for the summer, I feel like we should go out and do something. Bryan loves his guns, and I've always wanted to get my concealed weapons permit like my dad. So I think it would be cool to go out and do something like that with my brother.

⨠003. Go to Disney World. // Robert's sister, Brittany, is currently at Disney World. I'm super jealous right now. I love all the super detailed effort that the imaginers put into the parks. I've convinced Rob to go sometime next year.

⨠004. Nurture my Blog.// Since starting my blog in January, I don't have much content. So I need to continue to pay attention to my blog, since I feel like this should be my memoir's first draft. This means also trying to connect with other bloggers and commenting as well.

⨠005. DECORATE.// I've been living in my apartment for almost two years. I still don'f feel entirely comfortable in my place. I think its because I haven't really decorated or made it mine. I really need to decorate.

⨠006. End the Oven/Kasey conflict.// My oven hates me. No matter what I do, whatever I cook burns. That stops now. I will prevail over the oven, and I will successfully bake a cake or cookies.

⨠007. Read a new book each month.// I want to read something new every month thats not a series book.

⨠008. Pay off another credit card.// I just recently paid off one of my 3 credit cards and it felt so GOOD! I want to pay off two more of my credit cards.

⨠009. Foam Party.// Charleston Pantheon, the local gay night club, has foam parties every once in a while. I want to go to one so bad!

⨠010. Try new craft hobbies.// I mostly just paint and draw. I would love to learn how to make grannie squares and eventually make a blanket out of them.

⨠011. Learn how to really use Photoshop.// I mostly use Illustrator for my graphics, but I'd like to learn how to use Photoshop.

⨠012. Take more pictures.// I bought a really nice camera, and bag to go with it. I need to use things that I have.

⨠013. Take care of myself. // I'm getting older. I can't continue with the way I've lived. I need to eat better, since my face continuing to break out is a huge red flag for me. I need to exercise some more.

⨠014. Make homemade sangria.// I love a good sangria, and I really want to make my own.

⨠015. Go to a Gay Pride Parade.// I was told that a gay pride parade was the 2nd Happiest Place on Earth.

⨠016. Get that Tattoo.// I've probably said it on every list that I've every tried to make, weither it was new years resolutions or a 100 in 1001 list. But I need to do it!

⨠017. PAINT.// I have 7 canvases that are begging to be covered in paint right now.

⨠018. Make Sun Tea.// Now that its officially summer, I want to have constant supply of tea and lemons in the house. Sweet tea and lemons out of a mason jar is the best thing about summer.

⨠019. Make Mason Jar Go Cups.// I love having the plastic straw cups that everyone and their mother has, but I love the look of mason jars. I want to make a set of four of these for my house to use.

⨠020. Have adventures with Rob.// We never go anywhere that's fun and exciting. I want to have more little adventures when we go out.

⨠021. Start a game night.// I want to have the friends I do have over for a board game night with drinks  and everything.

⨠022. Go all out for Holidays.// I love the end of year holidays, and I want to really go all out for Halloween and Christmas. I want to decorate the house in a major way.

⨠023. Get my Passport.// The world an open book thats waiting to be read and seen.

⨠024. Complete a Day in My Life.// I did one of these a few years ago, and it was really fun. I would really like to do one of these again.

⨠025. Get an iPad.// This seams so trivial and ridiculous, but I want to get an iPad mini.

⨠026. Enjoy my year.// I have only one year to be 26. I want to live it up.

The ABCs of me

I found this on Miss Indie and I thought it was the perfect little thing to fill out to provide some information about myself.

A. Age: Currently, as of the date of this posting, I've lived in on this planet for 25 years, 11 months, and 10 days. I'll be 26 on May 31.
B. Bed size: A bed that's fit for a queen must be queen sized. Poor Rob, I take up most of the bed.
C. Chore that you hate: All of them, but most especially dusting or going through the mail.
D. Dogs: I love dogs! Mine live with my mom because apartment living isn't so great for dogs.
E. Essential start to your day: I normally hit the snooze button, but if I'm actually awake, then I check my email on my phone.
F. Favorite color: Currently? Um, I'd have to say TARDIS Blue. Followed by peacock blue, mustard yellow and gray.
G. Gold or Silver: White gold preferably. Its the best of both!
H. Height: 5'9". I used to be called Amazon in high school.
I. Instruments you play: I used to play Alto Saxophone in middle school. I sat third chair out of six.  I really don't play any instruments any more. I'd love to learn how to play the ukulele though.
J. Job title: While I would like to say full time lifestyle blogger, I have to say I work a position in Customer Service. Its gross.
K. Kids: Nope. No thank you.
L. Live: I live happily in the Charleston SC area. I never want to live anywhere else.
M. Mother’s name: Deborah. My brother and I used to call her De-bor-ah when we were little.
N. Nicknames: Speaking of nicknames, I used to have a few. My parents still call me Special K or Spacey Kasey. Amazon. my favorite user name is still lowerkase.
O. Overnight hospital stays: No. Luckily I've never had to have any kind of over night stays.
P. Pet peeves: I absolutely cannot stand when Rob can't decide where to eat if we are going out. I can pretty much eat anywhere, but Rob has acid reflux and can't eat certain things. I always let him pick where to go because he knows what he can and can't eat. But he can be really indecisive about where to go.
Q. Quote from a movie:
[Bruce Banner awakes]Tony Stark: I'm sorry, did I disturb your selective napping?
Bruce Banner: I'm sorry, I'm not that kind of doctor. It's not my department.
Tony Stark: Your training?
Bruce Banner: My temperament.
R. Right or left handed: I'm right handed.
S. Siblings: My little brother!
U. Underwear: Boy shorts. Polka Dots and Stripes.
V. Vegetable you hate: Cauliflower? Broccoli? Tree things.
W. What makes you run late: The Internet. My sleeping schedule.
X. X-Rays you’ve had: My teeth! Thats it.
Y. Yummy food that you make: I make the best crock pot Mac & Cheese. No lie. the best.
Z. Zoo animal: I'm fond of giraffes and seals. Or bugs in glass tanks. OHH!! Jellyfish! Those are the best!

friday favorites #002

Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine has been a headache. Seriously, I've had a headache every day this week. I honestly think its my prescription for my glasses is out of date, but I have an appointment for my optometrist this Thursday. ANYWAY! Here's some of my favorite things this week!

ITS MONSOON SEASON!
Spoiler Alert: Jinkx Monsoon won RuPaul's Drag Race! Condragulations, my queen!

I'm addicted to this game right now! Are you Team Inferno or Team Rainbow? Rainbow FTW!

I'm in the process of re-reading the Great Gatsby. I can't wait to go see this movie. And speaking of the movie, I downloaded the soundtrack and it is amazing!

These are a few of my favoirte things this week.

Friday Favorites #001

Oh my blog. Where did my writing ability go? I've been slightly stress lately with work, and it hasn't really been all too great for my creative, expressive juices and my will to write. But a rainy day where I can't spend my day out on the swing at my parents house is welcome and I'll waste the day with a Tron: Legacy, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou marathon telling you about some of my favorite things.

Because of some weird reasons, the theaters in my area wouldn't sell advance tickets for this movie. The only theater that did sell advance tickets, isn't open for a midnight showing. Instead its open for 9 pm Thursday showing! I'm so happy to see this movie slightly early! I'm so excited this movie. EDIT: Since I just got back from seeing the movie before I hit publish, if you do anything, anything at all, go see Iron Man 3. It is such a good movie! I won't say much about it, but the after credits scene was amazing!

Speaking of Tron: Legacy, I'm loving the new single from the Robots! Get Lucky by Daft Punk is on constant repeat lately. I can't wait until the full album drops later on this month.

Apparently, according to Robert, I'm super hard to buy presents for. My 26th birthday is coming up and I'm trying to give Robert some ideas on what to get me. I really like the Kiel James Patrick bracelets that I have (and I wore too much of) and I think these would make for some cute earrings to have.

here are some other awesome things

Kaelah over at honeybeeinthecity.com has this amazing give-away going on right now. I hope I win! It would defiantly be an amazing birthday gift!

Star Trek into Darkness looks amazing as well! I can't wait to boldly go where no one has gone before!

I'm finally going to be playing a video game. I haven't been to interested in playing a game. But I've been watching a lot of youtube and I've been inspired to play Alice: Madness Returns because of PewDiePie's current walk through. As I finish this post, the game is downloading on the Xbox!

I hope y'all enjoyed your week! What were some of your Favorite things this week?

slap dash

As I start today's post, I have to remind myself that not all my post have to have pictures and or graphics. ( Mental note Kas, it is okay not to have pictures. Take it one sentence at a time!)

So I just wanted to say Happy April! The time has flown by and I'm 60 days away from being twenty six. I don't know how I feel about it honestly. Indifferent, I guess. I feel like its not that different from twenty-five, but different enough to know I'm supposed to be doing something else. I know that I'm going to absolutely buckle down with this whole notion of getting healthier. I am getting older, I need to take of my body. To truly love and cherish my body. I do need to focus on loosing some of this muffin top spare tire around my stomach. And now, I'm waxing poetic on would haves, could haves, and should haves. (And I just spent a good 10 minutes double checking on how to spell would, could and should! They just don't look right to me, you know)

But on to different topics. April is going to be a good month for me, I hope! My brother and sister-in-law are going to be moving back down South for a short while Sis-In-Law awaits her new orders with the Coast Guard. Then they will be moving out to California for 8ish months. I can't wait to see them! I already have a tentative date with them to hang out at the pool at the complex if its warm enough. If its not we can just crash the hot tub. Bro and Sis were nice enough to send R and I their washer and dryer that would just be too costly to move. Mom and Dad helped get it up the 3 flights of stairs. (Thanks, folks.)

March ended with the season finale of Walking Dead, but I'm not going to talk about that for another week or so for the sake that I don't spoil it for people. Same goes with Doctor Who. It also ended with Easter. My family normally gets together for dinner. My Grannie is normally very strict that she has to make everything, but this year she let me make the Crock Pot Mac and Cheese. Everyone said it was good. I hardly ever cook, but I feel accomplished that I made something that everyone liked.

I've got a few plans I want to implement this month. I need to get my hair cut desperately  and I need to get my glasses prescription updated. I'm looking to get some new glasses as well. I feel like I'm going to go into the way fayer direction for my normal glasses. I have a pair of Ray-Bans that I use for my sunglasses, but I think I want to go to Way-Fayers all the time. We'll see.

Sorry that this post is so slap dash. I need to hit the hay for work tomorrow (today?)

Review: Case of Identity.

I love my iPhone 5. Heck, I love all my Apple products. But I'm like super picky when it comes to cases for my phone. Especially my iPhone. I think the coolest thing about having an iPhone is that is is really popular, and because it is so popular, there is more of a demand for having more personalization options. When I first got my iPhone, I had bought a wallet type case for it. It was a quality case, but it didn't meet my standards  for the phone. So I bought a dinky silicone case for some protection while I searched for the perfect phone. I'm really happy that I finally found my phone case. Its so perfect for me!

Don't worry about the monogram! It won't change!
I ordered my case from Case of Identity, which is an Etsy shop in England. They have tons of cases for most I-Devices and even Samsung Galaxy 3's by the look of their shop. They specialize in the custom monogram-chevron styles. Obvious from the picture, but I got their Rainbow Chevron Monogrammed case in White. Its a standard snap on hard case. It doesn't offer much as far as protection goes but if you don't like a lot of protection then its fine. Half the time I'm looking at my case, I love how pretty it is. The other half of the time I'm worrying about dropping it. Obviously its no otterbox, but for right now, its perfect for me.

I was really excited to get this case. I mean it has everything I need. So to say that I was happy to receive my package would be an understatement. I love getting mail from people. And to know that you are expecting a package? Its the best feeling in the world. After I placed my order, the anticipation for getting this case was ridiculous. I would ask R probably every day after the phone shipped, "Check the mail! My case could be there! " I think I asked R about the mail for a whopping 7 days straight. I was also a little apprehensive about the shipping because since it was from England, and I knew Mother's was some where around there, I was thinking that the package was going to get delayed because of the holiday. But It came! I was so happy.

To open your mail box and to see a bubble envelope like this is the best feeling in the world. And to see the postage from somewhere you've never been before? Amazing. Upon opening this envelope I was so amazed by how light it felt, weight wise. I know all I ordered was a case, but I guess I expected it to be a little bit heavier because of the packaging.

When I opened my package, I found a black envelope and my case wrapped in tissue paper. Other then the bubble wrap envelope this was all the protection for the case. I'm really surprised at the amount of packaging that went into this shipment. Not a bad surprised or a good surprise  but just surprised in general. I guess that if it were me sending the case, especially to one over seas, I'd probably have the case wrapped in bubble wrap as well as the bubble envelope. The envelope contained my receipt  a thank you note, as well as a paper/cloth wipe and a screen protector. I really didn't have any use for the screen protector. I mean, thanks for providing it, but I just don't like screen protectors.

So to make a long story short, I love my case. If I need to get another chevron monogramed hard case. I would deffinately go back to Case of Identity. I would also recommend it to some one who wanted something more personal than the other standard cases out there.

To finish of this post, I have a question for you. Do you like phone cases? If so what do you like about them, and what do they need to have or feature to meet your needs? Leave your answer in a comment below!

comic book wednesday

Happy Wednesday! Comic book reading has been put on a slight hold. I'm really waiting for the new X-Men to come out. Full female line up? I'm totally there. But here's my top picks since my last post.

Young Avengers
Gillen, Mckelvie, Nortan, Wilson
Marvel
(Number 1 pictured)

I love teenage superheros. Not only do you have to deal with growing up, but there is an added stress to become something greater than what you originally thought. Now, don't let the number 1 fool you. These are established characters. These characters face the uncertainty of growing up in these roles that are in some cases bigger then themselves. Take Kate Bishop for example. A young woman, age 18, who is in some way trying to fill the shoes of Clint Barton as Hawkeye. Wiccan and Hulkling dealing with Hulkling's need to be a superhero and now their new engagement. And throw in a Kid Loki, and there is sure to be chaos.  I'm really looking forward to this series, and I can't wait to see what this team comes up with with our young team of Avengers. My only issue is that while I love that I have the original number one which might be worth a lot someday, I really wish I could get the Bryan Lee O'Malley varient cover. My comic book store didn't get this one unfortunately.

All New X-Men
Bendis, Immonen
Marvel
(#6 pictured)

Hank McCoy aka the Beast is going though another mutation. He doesn't think he'll survive it. He's desperate  He thinks that the only way to save the future, to prevent from what has happend from happening, is give 5 mutants from the past a glimpse of the future of what will be. So Beast brings from the past to the present the original X-Men. (Talk about timey-whimy.) Bendis and Immonen have created a new story where 5 young people get to see what becomes of them. Its like those letters you write to your future self. But Jean Gray, Beast, Ice Man, Angel and Cyclops get to see exactly has what become of them. They get to deal with coming into their powers and dealing with the consequences of their future selves. Everyone is pissed at Cyclops, Hank McCoy is trying to save his future self, Angel is trying to find out his place in this world. Kitty Pride takes over as mentor. Can she help guide these misplaced mutants on the right path. Can she fill a roll of incredibly big shoes ( or wheels ) to fill? So far, I'm 7 books into this series, and I absolutely love it. I can't wait for the next one to come out!

izombie
Roberson, Allred
DC Vertigo
(#1 pictured)

R was browsing the paperback trades at our comic shop and saw this book. We picked it up because it looked interesting and the art is amazing. izombie is a story about Gwen, a girl who has died and in order to keep passing a real girl, she had to eat a brain every month. If she doesn't, she will turn into a mindless zombie. When she eats a brain, get basically downloads (my words, not the comics) the memories of the brain she's eating and then she goes out into the world and finish that person's business. She is accompanied by a Ellie a ghost who died in the '60s and Scott, the were-terrier. This is definitely a good book if you are interested in learning about different types of souls and how they fit into the monster world.

Until next the next comic book Wednesday!

high school

holy moly, this is a horrible picture. this is me in 2005 ( I think, I'm not sure. But its from my old myspace page, so its close enough) But for post purposes, I was fresh out of high school, trying to go to collage.  With 2013 marking 8 years out of high school, I think its about that time to reflect back.

I'll start out by saying that I was awkward as hell. I had the weirdest group of friends, and none of them stook around. It was a very eclectic group. Most of my time was spent either in the chorus hallway or in the courtyard where everyone hung out. My high school years weren't what you would call "painful", its just that looking back I wish I had done more. I wish I had actually took gym instead of ROTC. I wish that I had played some sort of sport. I wish that I had tried out for the musicals and tried out for show choir. I wish I had participated more and I wish that I had actuallly applied myself. I probably wouldn't have taken German and instead would have taken French. I wish I hadn't made choices that i did...

But like my dad say, "Wishes in one hand and shit in the other. See which one fills up faster." I guess I made it out of high school okay. I didn't finish collage like a lot of people, but I do have a steady job. I have a fiance, I have a home. I don't have kids (big plus). All I can do now is finally loose all this extra weight I have on me, and make the best impression that I can when its time for the reunion.

off topic

well, according to my blog calendar, I'm supposed to be doing a do it your self tutorial about glitter mugs and painting my kitchen utensil holder.  Sadly, thats not happening. Also, this is proof of my horrible spelling and how up a creak I would be with out spell check. (I'd like to thank my South Carolina public school education, my dyslexia, and my I.D.G.A.F attitude.)

Anyways. since I'm not blogging pictures about mugs and ceramic holders, you get a post about what I've been doing since my last post.

> I changed the name of my blog to Antlers and Anchors. I like this better and its a bit more easy to create a logo for.
> Speaking of design, I've been toying with the design and the coding of the blog. I had stuff I didn't like on there, and kept changing. In fact every time I got on the computer to blog, I ended up changing something on my blog, design wise. And it will probably change in March as well.

And thats about it. I haven't really been doing anything out of work since work seems to consume all of my time. Hopefully one day I can leave my job and work from home.

I hope you have a great week! Blog post tomorrow about high school. Urg. Scary.

Comic Book Wednesday: Issue 1

Happy Wednesday! It's also known as my friday! Today's blog post is just about comics today. Wednesdays are normally the days when new comics come out. So I'd like to introduce you to some of my favorite comics and hopefully you'd start to enjoy them as well.

So first things first. My number one Comic right now: Hawkeye.

Hawkeye- Fraction and Aja (#2 pictured) Marvel

I will not be ashamed to admit that the 2 reasons I was interested in reading this was because of Jeremy Renner's portrayal of Marvel's Markman and the artwork on the covers. Something about the minimalistic and almost monochromatic approach to the cover art is what really got me interested. Its the characters and the smattering of other Marvel characters appearances that keep me coming back for more. I love the mentorship/friendship that Clint has with Kate Bishop, who is basically Hawkeye for the Young Avengers. I love the main villain's every 6th word is Bro. Now bro, if you read any book, its this book bro. If you want an inside look of what an Avenger's life looks like when they aren't saving the world, then it is a great book. Hawkeye deals with healing himself, and him trying to manage the building he lives in. Please pick this book up.

Saga- Vaughan and Staples (#1 pictured) Image Comics

Saga was a recommendation from my Comic Book Guy, Mike. He owns the local shop and is really good at his job. He remembers your face and your previous purchases. And that's what he did for me. Out of me and R, I read more of the space saga's and fantasy stories. I was cruising for a new read and Mike picked it up off the trade shelf and told me to read it. Saga is a child who was born to two people on the opposite sides of a war. The way it starts out is from the narrative of the child telling her story about how she was born, and  how her parents met. I love this book because of the artwork done by Fiona Staples. I loved her work in Mystery Squad and the overtones of the art expedite the story.  I'm recommending this basically for its in book artwork. I would recommend to pick up the trade soft cover to read the first six issues in one go. But its defiantly worth the look.

Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake- Allegri (#1) Boom! Comics'

I fraking love Adventure Time. And when they came out with the Gender-bent versions of the same characters, I loved it even more. I was so very excited that Pendelton Ward (tv show creator) would green light a comic for these characters. Fionna is Finn, Cake is Jake. Prince Gumball is Princess Bubblegum. Now I'm about to get on a soapbox, but Fionna is a comic that if I ever have any nieces or if I change my mind and adopt, but this is the one comic book that I'm going to have any girl I know read. Fionna is exactly the female portraial of Finn and Fionna kicks the evil Ice Queens ass, and protects the various Princes' of the Land of Ooh. ( end soap box). If you love Adventure Time, or just want something funny to read, this is my recommendations. Its also going to be a short series (6 comic books total) so its going to be a really short read as well.

Well folks. Thats going to be it for Comic Book Wednesday! Excelsior!

throwback tuesday

So this is R. This is also a really bad picture of him. Anyway, today I'm writing how R and I fell in love. While its not an epic tale like How I Met Your Mother, its ours and I wouldn't change it. Anyway, our story starts back in the summer months of 2005. I had just graduated from high school, and I hadn't gotten a job yet. Or maybe I was job searching. I dunno, but for what ever the reason, I was bored and hanging out with two friends at the time, Krissy and Brittany. We were bored out of our minds, and while we had started to play video games just to pass the time, Krissy had the idea to call her ex-boyfriend Jas to hang out. Jas was at the time hanging out with R and asked if he could bring him over. They came over and were more into playing video games then the girls were, but they were more interested in getting high. Now I'll say right here and now that I've never gotten high or even smoked a cigarette  So R and Jas went out side to get high before coming back in. That poor trip ended up with the boys giving each other horsey rides because I had my cowboy hat lying around.

Anyway, R and I didn't talk to much, and if we did we chatted it up on AIM. R had a crush on Krissy, and Krissy and Jas were hooking up, and then R tried to get with Brittany. Durring all this time, we kept chatting on AIM. I was falling into a funk because I was 18, and I had never had a proper boyfriend. R kept telling me that someone would come along and find out how much of good person I was and make me happy. I brushed him off and said like I always do, who could like a person like me? We kept talking and because he was currently getting his GED, and I lived so close to the GED school, I offered to give him rides back and fourth a couple of times. After talking for so long R decided that Brittany was a total bitch and drama queen and wasn't worth the effort. He decided to give it a try with me. I guess I was thinking that I was the last resort and felt that it probably wouldn't last.

And I was right, but not because that I was the last choice. It was because we both had growing up to do. And trying to grow up together can hurt. One person matures at a different rate then the other, and no one is on the same page for anything. I remember telling R when we broke up the first time to "call me when you get a life." R got a job and started doing his growing up, and he called me back. But there were other times, when I felt so sure that he was the one, it scared him. I was seriously the overly attached girlfriend because I never wanted to let him go.  Fast forward to 2 years later around my birthday, so around the end of May. He had come back from a cruise with his family. He had basically gotten to his house, put his bags down, and got into the car to come see me. Apparently he had missed me (and had seasickness) through out the entire trip that he couldn't enjoy it. We decided to get back together and to really work on being together.

We've had our ups and downs, and we've had our arguments. R is it for me. We've been engaged for 5+ years now, and there is no rush. We've got all the time in the world for us.

Holiday Hangovers

Tree 2012
Holidays can be stressful. I'm sure we've all been there. For some people, the stress can come from family, decorating or money. I think what stresses me out about the holidays is gift reciprocation. I'm always worried if the gift I'm giving a person will not be of equal value. I've had breakdowns over this. R stresses about the monetary side of things, like why I have to buy presents for every member of my family. (Which I don't, if your reading this R!) But I'm digressing. The fact of the matter, no matter who you are, the holidays are a mess. A giant pile of stressful mess.

This year we were late in starting with presents. Seriously. I didn't have a gift bought until the 14th. R's easy to shop for. Basically you get him any thing that is Star Wars, Comic book, or alcohol related, and he loves it. Unfortunately for him and my family I'm a bit more picky. Normally his gift default is a purse of some sort, but then I have to have a specific type of purse, certain colors, etc. I wish I wasn't so picky, but if I'm not, and he gets me something I don't like it, I probably won't use what ever I get. (after reading over this, I didn't realize I was such a bitch when it comes to gifts. wow...) Buying for my other family members can be kind of easy, but I make it hard on my self by wanting to personalizing it too much. I abhor the ideas of gift cards, but a gift card allows the gift receiver to be as picky as I am. Urg.. gifts.

Then there the family gatherings. I normally love these, because I love my family to itty bitty pieces. I love R's family as well. Firstly we have my dad's side of the family, which I hardly ever see since my grandparents passed. Because we hardly ever see this side of the family, it can generate some awkward conversations. Most of my family on that side is super religious, which I'm not. Luckily one of my little cousins was acting like a little shit and acted as an ice breaker the most of the time. Mom's side of the family is perfect to hang with. At least they are okay with having a beer, bloody mary or mimosa on Christmas morning. After a big lunch and presents, its normally time to head over to R's family for dinner and presents and wine or mimosa's.

AND then you've got New Years Eve/ New year and the pressure of resolutions and the downfall of any resolutions set. I didn't set any resolutions, only goals that I hope to obtain, like to be more organized and to finally decorate the apartment as if we actually live here, not if we're just visiting.

Now I'm really digressing. I'm just happy that the holidays are over. Now to pack up those ornaments and to throw out the tree.

so, this is my corner of the interweb. My name is Kasey, and thanks for stumbling unto me. I've been wanting to start a blog for so long, but really didn't have much to say before now. My goals for this blog is to basically write my memoirs while my memories are still fresh, if that makes any sense? (maybe) Anyways, you found me here so let me tell you about myself!
Like I said, my name is Kasey. I'm 25 years old, and I live in Charleston, SC. I live with the love of my life, Robert. We've been engaged for about 5+ years now. We're not in any rush to get married. I have epilepsy, but its not a big deal. Its totally under control. I work for a cell phone service provider but I'm determined not to bitch and complain about it here on this blog. I'm a big nerd. I love comic books, sci-fi tv shows, books, and just plain weird stuff in general. I'm a bit lazy at times, but I love to paint and draw and pretty much do stuff with my hands. I like going out with friends for a night on the town, but I will not say no to a netflix night with R with pizza and wine.
Here are some random facts about me, or what you need to know upfront about me to be my bff.

*I'm losing weight in order to survive the zombie apocalypse.
* I want to live in a hobbit hole.
* R knows that if the Doctor ever showed up, I'd go with him in a heart beat.
*I have a love/hate relationship with New York City. I love visiting but could never live there.
*I hate fashion, but If I has to describe my style, it would be a lazy prep with hints of nerd tossed in.
* I hate talking about religion, but if you have to know, I'm pagan.
* I'm addicted to Bath and Body Works.
* I believe in ghosts, the Loch Ness Monster, and aliens.
*I'm also addicted to the internet. I love memes.
